Browser support
Gistful separates audio recording from live transcript because browsers do not provide the same speech features everywhere. Test your setup before an important lecture.
Fully supported
Chrome and Edge on current desktop systems, ChromeOS, and Android give the most reliable live transcript.
Supported with limits
Safari on macOS, iPhone, and iPad is supported with platform limits. Keep Gistful open and the screen awake. Live transcript may depend on Siri and system availability.
Recording and notes
When live transcript is not available, Gistful still records audio and keeps your notes, as long as your browser can use the microphone.
Not supported
If your browser cannot record audio, Gistful lets you know before the lecture starts and suggests a browser to try.
Does Gistful work on iPhone?
Yes. Open Gistful in Safari and add it to your Home Screen to use it like an app. Keep it open with the screen awake during class, because iOS may pause recording or live transcript when you lock the phone or switch apps.
Does Gistful replace official captions?
No. Gistful is a study tool and is not a substitute for institution-provided accessibility services or accommodations.
